AUDIO REACTION EXPERIMENT / 2019
Distract Overly Social Cat
A Python script I wrote to play a familiar call when my cat Navi started crying for attention at night.
Navi would cry for attention outside the bedroom at night. He responded to certain voices and sounds, so I tried having the script play a familiar call when the microphone picked up noise above a set threshold.
The recovered script listens to the microphone with sounddevice, calculates a simple volume norm, and plays a local recording when the signal crosses a threshold. An earlier browser-driven YouTube approach remains commented in the source; I abandoned it because startup was too slow for the interaction.
The audio response worked briefly, then Navi stopped paying attention to it. A spare monitor playing quiet human television in the kitchen turned out to work better. That's where I left the experiment.
